Ok, so this isn’t so much a review of a show, or the multinational versions of said show, as it is an excuse for doing a new image folder. However, I will still give you a review of what is kind of a stupid fun show. So get your swimsuit on, it’s time to talk about

Wipeout/Total Wipeout

Wipeout/Total Wipeout is an obstacle race game show along the lines of Ninja Warrior/Sasuke, Takeshi’s Castle/MXC, or if you’re an old person like me, Double Dare. The basic concept is you have 20 contestants who run through 4 rounds of obstacle courses to win a cash prize. Where Wipeout/Total Wipeout differ from their Japanese fore bearers is that falling off an obstacle does not immediately disqualify you from competing and possible winning the game.

So, first a little bit on the life of the show. Wipeout began in 2008, and ran for 7 seasons finishing in 2014. It was later revived in 2021 and ran for 2 seasons ending in 2023. It was cancelled sadly because of the death of a contestant after competing. During the course, a contestant became unconscious and went into a cardiac arrest, dying the next day after filming. It was later discovered that he had pneumonia, and hadn’t disclosed that to the production crew which lead to the tragedy. So yeah. Fun stuff. Wooo. Not sure how to transition from that, so I’m just going to jump to the overall layout of the show, ok? Ok.

So, each episode consists of 4 rounds: The Qualifier which consists of 4 obstacles to cut the 20 contestants down to 12. The Sweeper which is an obstacle that changes, but exists to narrow the 12 down to 5-6. The Semi-Final which also changes the obstacles used, but it used to narrow the 5-6 down to 3. And finally the Wipeout Zone where those 3 contestants than race to see which of them will make the best time through the final obstacle course. Contestants can fall off of pretty much any obstacle in rounds 1, 3, and 4 and it not count against them. Round 2, the first 6-7 eliminated are out. Round 3, the last ones or the ones who don’t complete are out. And the final round whoever is fastest wins. Got the rules? Good, because they are actually kind of simple, and if you didn’t get them then I explained them wrong and need to try again.

Now, the show was so popular it spawned 8 video games and 37 REGIONAL VERSIONS! Which doesn’t count the countries just airing the American version with dubbing/subtitles! It’s obviously a SHOCKINGLY popular show format. And you can watch quite a few of the variants on streaming services like Amazon Prime, Max, and probably on Youtube as well. Part of the success is, of course, watching people running the course and seeing who’ll win. Another part is that the hosts tend to make some jokes at the poor contestants expense. Giving them silly nicknames and such. Generally, you have 1 to 2 in studio hosts to act in the same manner as sports commentators, and 1 hostess on the course to get a brief interview with each contestant. Nothing deep, just some light fluff. And those ladies are the reason I’m doing this. But I’ll explain that at the end of it all.

The Wipeout shows are nice fluff TV, and lord knows we need that these days especially in the States. Let’s just say that it’s hard to believe that it’s currently only April and not October 2035. I’m going to try and not be political here because we’re a porn site, and this is a review of a game show from over a decade ago. So not really time for that. But even if you don’t need the fluff, it’s a nice show. Interesting to see people trying to get past the obstacles, and the variety of contestants is impressive. Unlike current shows like American Ninja Warrior where everyone looks like they have 0% body fat and even that’s in their hair. It’s fun, the hosts enjoy their job, and the contestants seem to be thrilled with having a shot at the Big Red Balls. So yeah, if you want to watch it, go for it. It’s a fun little hour long show. And some of the times people make during the runs are insane.

Oh, and I said earlier that the reason I’m doing this review is more because of intending to do something else. Well it’s this, I’m putting up a folder of the various Wipeout on the field Hosts from the many versions of the show. Now it’s NOT complete, because I couldn’t find some images for some of the ladies. And I limited to 3 a piece of each one I could find. But still, it’s pretty sizable. Fair warning though, 99% of them are clothed. Except one. Anyway, time to upload those and probably head to bed.
